It’s a beautiful thing when a happy dog in a shelter finally finds his new family and a forever home, but it’s also a bit sad to see a dog struggling to get adopted.
Many sheltered dogs have this problem, and it’s even worse when their friends at the center leave them because they can get pretty lonely.

The story begins with Chauncey. She is a very shy, but sweet and playful dog who was sheltered at the Spartanburg Humane Society.
She spent a lot of time there watching her friends leave with a new family, and she would watch them leave through a hole in the door.
The people who worked at the shelter didn’t understand why nobody wanted to adopt Chauncey.
Angel Cox, CEO of the Spartanburg Humane Society, told The Dodo: Chauncey is very shy until she gets to know you. So, with all the barking and constant activity at the shelter, she kind of watched the world go by.
They were all feeling awful about her situation, so they kept her company a lot. They took her for walks, petted her, and gave her treats.
Cox said: She loved being held and walked by the staff and the volunteers. She is great on a leash, so she was definitely a volunteer favorite.
Even though it seemed like she couldn’t find anyone, a family came to the shelter and adopted her. Chauncey spent some time with the new family and got to experience what it was like to have a home.
Unfortunately, for her, it didn’t work out, so her new family sent her back to the shelter.
A Bright New Future
It was only thanks to the unrelenting attitude of the Spartanburg staff that Chauncey got a new chance in life.
The workers refused to accept her situation, so they posted on Facebook about Chauncey in hopes of finding someone new for her.
Not long after, another family decided to adopt her after seeing the post about her.
This time, she showed her charm to the new family immediately and they realized that she was what they were looking for.
Cox said: She sold herself right away. She is a very loving dog and won them over with her sweetness.
Everyone at the shelter was overjoyed that she found her forever home and is finally happy.
Even though Chauncey was struggling a lot due to her shyness, she never gave up hope. Her story will definitely inspire more people not to overlook the quiet dog when looking to adopt one.
