We’ve seen many stories of dogs getting stuck in unexpected places, but never anything quite like this.
When a dog was struck by a car, he was unexpectedly caught in a tight squeeze — and it took a “miracle” rescue to get him free.
Last week, a woman from St. Lucie County, Florida accidentally struck a 1-year-old dog who had run out in front of her car, according to WPTV.
After the collision, she pulled over, but the dog was nowhere in sight. She assumed that the dog had run off.
But the next morning, she heard barking coming from her garage. Investigating, she made a shocking discovery: the dog was trapped inside the grille of her car!
It seemed that during the impact, the dog had been pushed through the car’s front bumper, and was now stuck inside. The woman carefully brought her car over to St. Lucie Battery & Tire for help getting the dog free.
It was a situation like nothing they had ever seen before. “First time I’ve ever seen a dog trapped in there,” store manager Lenny Cruz told WPTV. “You find cats, you find rodents when it gets cold outside they kind of tuck away to get warm, but a dog, never at all.”
Despite the unusual circumstances, the crew was prepared to help, along with an animal control officer. Video posted to Facebook shows them carefully disassembling lower grille, all while reassuring the “terrified” little dog.
The dog was reportedly stuck in that car for about 12 hours, but the workers’ help he was soon freed. Thankfully, he did not appear to have any injuries.
While it was the first time they had seen a dog trapped in a grille like this, the animal control officer mentions that this auto shop has helped rescue animals in the past. “We just don’t fix cars, we rescue dogs,” one employee jokes.
According to WPTV, the dog, named Barbas, was soon reunited with his owner Juan Rangel, who said that his Schnauzer escaped from home Monday night. He was surprised by the whole situation but thankfully for the heroes who came to the rescue.
“I couldn’t wrap my head around it. I’m like, what do you mean he’s stuck in a bumper?” he told the outlet. “I mean, it’s unbelievable. I mean, he really is a miracle.”
