Dog was heartlessly thrown over 6-foot fence — now she has a great new start

It’s always heartbreaking when someone abandons their dog, but some people are especially cruel — like one person who hurled their dog over the fence of a Cincinnati animal shelter.

But now, this sweet dumped dog has a happy ending…

On October 16, an individual drove up to Cincinnati Animal CARE with their dog. They then grabbed the dog and tossed her over the 6-foot fence. The dog landed with a thud on her back, and was seen hobbling afterwards.

Surveillance footage captured the shocking moment. The dog quickly gets back on her feet but is visibly confused and shaken, trying to process what just happened to her. The shelter was still open at the time, which means the culprit could have just surrendered her properly, but instead chose to cruelly throw her over the fence.

“There was no kindness. There was no forethought for her safety or welfare. It was just throwing the bag of trash,” Hamilton County Chief Dog Warden Beth Ward told Local 12.

Cincinnati Animal CARE took the dog in, naming her Ester, which “means love, determination, and perseverance,” according to Senior Communications Manager Lisa Colina Franklin. Ester recovered from being tossed but was found to be malnourished and had skin irritation. Franklin also wrote that the dog appeared “to have never been inside a building before.”

The shelter shared Ester’s heartbreaking story online, hoping that someone might identify the culprit and come forward with information. They were driving a dark-colored Honda Accord with no front license plate, and were not clearly visible in the footage.

While there have been no updates on who abandoned Ester, the shelter did report an incredible update last week: Ester was adopted!

“While we are still seeking information on who abandoned her at the shelter, Ester had a long list of people waiting to meet her and she was adopted the same day she was available!” Cincinnati Animal CARE wrote on October 22, sharing a photo of Ester with her new family. “She is now enjoying life in a loving adoptive home.”

It’s heartbreaking that anyone would toss this sweet dog over a 6-foot fence, but we’re so glad Ester is doing well and has a great new home!
