Dogs are our best friends, but when they are our work buddies, it is even harder to say goodbye. This is the story of K9 Tommy – the German Shepherd who worked for the Ohio Department for seven years.
After years of impeccable service, Tommy needed to be euthanized as he coped with aggressive cancer. This is how Ohio law enforcement agencies from around Ohio saluted him…
Tommy, A K9 German Shepherd, Was Euthanized After 7 Years of Service
After seven years of being a good work partner to his handler, Jeremy Berger, the officer from the Department of National Resources, the German Shepherd, Tommy, said his last goodbye.
Unfortunately, this K9 was dealing with an aggressive form of cancer that couldn’t be treated. As he was experiencing a lot of pain and couldn’t perform even basic canine activities – Jeremy decided to euthanize him.
His impeccable work and years of service, however, didn’t go unnoticed. Law enforcement agencies from all over Ohio, together with their K9s, decided to pay tribute to Tommy one last time.
They waited in front of Blanchard Valley Veterinary Clinic to salute this amazing K9. This was a devastatingly emotional moment for all, especially for Jeremy and his family. After euthanization, Tommy was carried to the car on a stretcher with a flag draped over him.
Officers and their dogs stood still, paying tribute to their colleague and honoring him with a minute of silence.
Jeremy And His Family Were Devastated
Jeremy and his family were the last ones to say goodbye to Tommy. They were all devastated to see him for the last time.
During their farewell, the final call went over the radio.
“You were a faithful partner to 3280, Officer Tommy. Thank you for being a good boy and protecting your partner and the citizens of Ohio. Your watch has now ended. Rest well. You are gone, but never forgotten.”
Rest Well, Tommy
Ohio officers were touched by this emotional farewell. Tommy’s watch ended, leaving them in tears.
Tommy was another K9 dog that gave his all for the people of the United States. His service will never be forgotten, and his memory lives in our hearts forever. Get some rest, Tommy! You were a good boy!
