Annegret Raunigk had always loved children. Her whole life was connected to little ones — first as a primary school teacher, then as a mother of a large family.
By the age of 55, the Berlin resident had already given birth to 13 children and had even become a grandmother. It might have seemed her life was complete and it was time to rest — Annegret retired in 2005 and could have enjoyed peace and quiet.
But fate had other plans. That same year she made a bold decision: with the help of artificial fertilization, she gave birth to another daughter, becoming the oldest mother in Germany at that time.

This step caused a huge stir in society — many considered her irresponsible, and some even called her crazy. But Annegret ignored the criticism.
The years passed, the youngest daughter grew up, and in 2014 told her mother that she dreamed of a brother or sister.
Annegret listened: her health allowed it, the older children were ready to help, and she felt she could become a mother once again. At that time she was already 64.

In Germany, she could not get permission for the procedure, so Annegret went to a clinic abroad, where a fertilized donor egg was implanted. And something almost incredible happened: four embryos implanted successfully.
In 2015, at the age of 65, Annegret gave birth to three boys and one girl. The babies were born by cesarean section 15 weeks premature and each weighed less than one kilogram.
Despite all concerns, the children survived and soon began to gain weight.

Of course, the criticism did not stop — people continued to consider her selfish, since Annegret now had 17 children.
